Design4Retail are a revered agency started in 2003 that create retail spaces and concepts for many high street brands. Based in two studios near Leicester, their 60 strong team offer a full service from strategy and conception, through to build and delivery. Kota were challenged with creating a platform that would keep them ahead of the game in their creative industry, whilst also expertly showcasing their eclectic case studies, which ranged from shop and concession designs, pop-up spaces and brand development.
Our design solution was a balance between contemporary animated features, such as image sliders, beautiful hovers, and a customised cursor, mixed with editorial style layout and fonts, and bold block colours. One of the main features for us to get funky with was creating a high impact, interactive landing screen for the site that would stay fresh over time. The concept we moved forwards with was a randomised coloured screen and mission statement which magnified on the scroll of the users mouse. Simple but bold, it creates a unique look that makes D4R stand out in the crowd. Due to the large amount of content being delivered on the site through the Thoughts, News, and Case Study sections, we built a powerful Content Management System that was highly customisable to keep the content delivery interesting. The case studies and articles could be customised to an extent that D4R could choose layout blocks, colour palette, components and flexible templates, that created different looks for each one published. This has become a really valuable asset to the D4R marketing team.
